Story and Projector Mechanics

The game is set in a dystopian future where the world has completely lost its shine; a nebula envelops the planet and reality twists upon itself. All art and human intellect have been sucked away by a mysterious entity that appeared over Earth on a summer day and never left. Gradually, humans turned into pawns; everything that had elevated human intellect up to that point ceased to exist, being absorbed and transformed into energy by this unknown race, as old as planet Earth itself.

The Projector’s mechanics serve as a gateway to a forgotten reality. With it, Luce will be able to:

  • Find hidden supplies
  • Find hidden passages
  • Enter cinematic universes*
  • See platforms that don’t exist in the current world and use them to pass through places that would be impossible to traverse in Brazil of 2099.

Exploring cinematic universes is a central point of the game Brasil 99. Each chapter will explore the universe of a film. The first film we will explore is Abrigo Nuclear by Roberto Pires. Being a science fiction film made in Bahia with very minimalist settings, we will recover some clues necessary for Luce’s advancement in the story. Each chapter will involve the exploration of a cinematic universe.
